The reduction of Stephanie Brown down to being just a white blonde girl needs to end. That was never all she was, even back in the Robin 1993 days-Did most of her charactet revolve around Tim at first?Yes but he was literally the protagonist and she was the love interest so it was necessary to make them a big part of eachother's lives to make their romance make sense and she gets more and more fleshed out as the run goes on and this extends to her 90s Yj guest starring, her Detective Comics issues and all the Batgirl runs up until to the point where SHE HERSELF became Batgirl because that's how much of her own character she was by then. You cannot seriously call yourself a Stephanie stan if you read all those years of her life and came to the conclusion that the only important part of her character is her having a 'desirable' hair color by white standards
Stephanie Brown has anger issues and violent tendencies and self-worth issues that she tries her best cope with through presenting herself as having unflincing self-confidence that eventually became real to an extent and the reason for all of this is that she grew up with an abusive dad and a drug addict mom yet she was brave and capable enough to stand up to him by becoming a vigilante at 15 without even having powers or special training and ended up being one of the best Gotham's ever seen anyway. She loves all kinds of food, anything and everything purple and girly, weird things, sports, video games, causing chaos and art. She's a shameless flirt but that dosen't mean she goes for just anyone because she has standards for herself and she refuses to give up on anyone but especially herself even if she wants to sometimes and she got murdered as Robin but Gotham ressurected her because it believed in HER too(Idc about the 'was just in Africa' shit DC tried to pull, that's what actually makes sense with the actual lore)and she's so kind to kids that it blurrs the line between big sister figure and pseudo-mom
And yet nonstop, the Batfam fandom can't look past her hair color-It's always 'the blonde Robin' instead of the girl one, making her listen to fucking Taylor Swift as if she's a not huge feminist both in-universe and in a meta sense, calling her an 'It Girl' and 'Preppy' as if she wasn't either a normal student or a troubled kid depending on the writer and sometimes even both and weird as fuck in literally all her incarnations, reducing Tim's pure and well-intended love for her down to her being conventially attractive and even Cass can't escape it because white wlw can't understand that Stephanie and her are canonically equals on every level so they see her as nothing but Stephanie's woc cheerleader gf who has no existense outside of her
Steph's not written like a soulless Barbie doll with no personality or arcs outside of being a girl, she's multilayered and written like a PERSON.You guys are straight up somehow even more misogynistic to her than DC is and i am NOT going to keep my mouth shut while y'all call removing her entire character to make her a cishet gender stereotyped fantasy 'girlbossing' and especially not canon. This is why i give her black hair and brown eyes in my blasian design for her even though it makes her less recognizable because not only do i want her to actually look like me since half the reason i have that hc for her is that i'm black mixed and she's so much like me in so many ways but also because y'all's obsession with acting like blondeness is a personality trait is weird, gross and deeply unserious.Aaaaaand end rant

DC’s penchant for creating characters with black hair and blue eyes presents a really funny opportunity. Especially when so many of said characters being of similar ages to Bruce’s children.
I think a lot of them have been mistaken as actually being Bruce’s kids by tabloids.
I like to think it started with Donna Troy. Who would hang out around a young Dick Grayson-Wayne. Would hang out with young Dickie Wayne a lot. To the point that the paparazzi took notice, and started to speculate on the nature of their relationship.
Which abruptly ended when an overzealous reporter confronted the pair as they left a movie demanding info on the nature of their relationship and when they had started dating.
To which Donna had laughed and waved them off saying: “Dick is my brother!”
English was not Donna Troy’s first language. She didn’t realize that by omitting the word like (as in: Dick is like my brother) she had caused a media uproar. Because everyone knew that Dick Grayson was Brucie Wayne’s son, his little boy. But the insinuation that he had two children?
They take one look at this tall, gorgeous young woman with black hair and blue eyes. And then look at the young boy beside her, also with black hair and blue eyes. It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to believe that Bruce had adopted two children who bore passing resemblance to him, if not fathered the pair himself.
It was Outrageous. It was Insane. It was Deliciously juicy gossip.
(Dick could have corrected them. But he actually thought Bruce trying to explain away another kid to be really, really funny.)
The papers go crazy for the idea of Bruce Wayne: Family man and suddenly all anyone wants to interview him about is his two kids! Donna and Dick!
Bruce had expected this, having been aware of Donna’s slip-up. But he didn’t refute it, because it really was a bit funny. Instead he spouts off proudly about his two kids, relaying stories of Donna growing up (which he had originally heard from Diana). It’s harmless, something to feed the papers and expand upon his Brucie Wayne persona.
After all, it’s not like he actually intends to adopt any children besides Dick.
But. . . Then there’s Jason. With his dark curls and big blue eyes who talk at length about how cool his “big sister” is. And never mentions his “big brother” except to pout at the mention of Dick Grayson’s name.
And for a while Bruce is believed to have three children.
Except after Jason, there’s Tim Drake.
Tim, who (having sustained a serious concussion) one day panicked and proclaimed a confused Conner Kent as his brother. Upping Bruce’s supposed children count to five.
Later he offhandedly mentions a Billy and Freddie. The media goes nuts with the notion that Bruce has two more sons hidden away somewhere. Seven children, six boys and one girl.
The papers sympathize with Donna’s apparent status as eldest and only daughter of Bruce Wayne.
This doesn’t last long, as soon afterwards Bruce is introducing his daughter Cassandra to the public. Shes often seen with a blonde young woman who goes by Stephanie, and the pair have tabloids speculating that Bruce has branched away from his obsession with adopting blue eyed, black haired children.
Years after that, there’s yet another young boy. With browned skin and green eyes, he looks exactly like a young Bruce Wayne with different colors. Another child to Bruce’s family. And after that, there’s Duke Thomas joining the fray.
And then one day a reporter stops a pair of boys outside of school one day and asks Damian Wayne about his friend, one Jon Kent. Wanting a story about how the children of the elite differ in terms of making friends from “normal” children. Damian scoffs at the question and asks the reporter if he’s so incompetent he can’t recognize both of Bruce Wayne’s sons.
The media goes nuts for this.
Bruce Wayne; single father to twelve kids.
Lois laughs so hard she cries that Christmas, when she opens a card from the Waynes that prominently features Bruce surrounded by not just his own children, but her brother-in-law, Connor, and her son Jon. Clark complains that Bruce is stealing his kids.
Diana frames the card. It really is a good picture, and Donna looks amazing.

Sad unfair facts about Stephanie Brown
She deserves justice!
The first people that supported her as Vigilante weren't from the Batfamily, in fact they were from the Arrowfamily: Green Arrow junior and Black Canary.
Following that fact, she didn't get to keep them as friend and mentor since only Tim and later Damian got to be friends with Conner Hawke and only Babs and Cassandra kept a friendly relationship with Dinah but currently they never mentioned Stephanie again.
Another mentions of characters that she never got to hang out again because they never separate her from Tims and the Batgirls are: Huntress (Bertineli), they have polar opposite personalities but they got along and respected and supported each other and Supergirl, Steph and Kara became besties and had the best relationship in her run as Batgirl in my opinion but after that comic they never interact again and with huntress only interacts 2 times... They never let Steph have more friends than Cassandra.
Steph and Jason are the failure death Robins, were raised in the narrows, had drug addict mothers and criminal fathers... Steph actions reminding Batman about Jason being part of the reasons he fired her... And in Jason's return they wasted the opportunity of making Jason rub her death on Batman's face. Not to mention they still have to have "the talk" About their time as Robin's and no, that comic of the five Robins fighting against the "zero robin" DOESN'T COUNT, we deserve to see a proper emotional moment between this two sharing their common pain but we still don't get it.
Steph and Dick are the only batfamily members that had been described as "sunshines" and very perky chatters, despite that we never got to see proper interactions with them, Steph isn't biological or legally related with Dick but she has the best little sister material and together they have the potential to annoy the hell out of grumpy characters, yet the first time they properly interacted when she was Batgirl Dick was a jerk and after things got better they never had a moment together.
In the only comic were Steph was finally acknowledged for the first time as Damians big sister isn't a comic from the main canon and even though she became the Robin of Damian's Batman she died quickly but supposedly Talia was going to revive her... We never see them again in the comic. We never got to see the curious combination between Talia and Stephanie. We never get to see anything.
Currently in the comics (because im not counting the young Justice show) Steph never got to be in a superhero team outside the batfamily: she was well received by some Titans including Cassie who was surprised she wasn't there to join them and was in fact only there for "emotional support" For Tim, who i should remind you decided by himself that the Titans were out of Steph league 😑. She was mentored by the birds of prey out of camera but unlike Cassandra she never got the chance to officially join them, in the Robin's comic run in a simulation of what would had happened to her if she never followed Batman she became the leader of the Teen Titans only to confront Superman, lose and get the other members to never trust her again. There was an official idea that was never approved of a team that had Blue Beetle, Supergirl, Damian's robin and Steph's Batgirl and most recently another Idea of a superhero team with the flash twins, animal girl and mr terrific kid and sidekick with Steph as a leader... Was rejected too. They just WON'T give her a chance.
Harper Row took her credit once, what do i mean? In the new 52 a new young but not teen vigilante named blue bird was created and that version of Stephanie didn't want to involve herself in vigilante stuff unlike her original version, instead she was encouraged to do it that's when Harper gave her a speech about how she became one by herself without Batman having anything to do about it which is an absolute blatant lie because she became Bluebird inspired by him after he saved her and her brother. STEPHANIE BROWN is the one who became a vigilante without Batman's influence! She became Spoiler to spoil her father's evil plans, Batman just crossed paths with her, she wasn't inspired by him or was turned by him into Spoiler.
In her first interactions with Batman he didn't saw her as unskilled or incompetent for the vigilante life, he was simply worried she was doing things out of revenge and not justice and was just trying to guide her but later the writers changed this by turning her into a punching bag to receive an hypocritical exhausting amount of criticism, disapproval and contant remarks about her "lack of enough skills" and incompetence, constantly questioned and underestimated and no matter how much she trained it was never enough... It took her a run as the 3th Batgirl to stop that habit of considering her unfit for the job.
Steph never knew how much her death affected everyone and what is worse when she returned in that awfully lazy writing way the only reactions of characters seeing her alive we got to see were Batman's, Tim's, Alfred's and her mom and needless to say Batman's reaction was dry and disappointing but what is worse is that they never showed us Cassandra's reaction to seeing her alive when she was the one they showed us that suffered the most, not only one of the few characters that cried but she even hallucinated about her.
Catwoman first interaction with her was actually the sweetest and she even praised her and took a bit of her side in the gang war and really tried to help her. This sweet interaction was completely forgotten the second time they interact and the following interactions never felt the same again.
Her artistic qualities have been forgotten, the comics keep showing us how artistic is Damian or Jason's love for classic literature but they forgot that Steph was also good a drawing and a really good pianist, seriously she could have played the piano in one of those galas Bruce wayne goes, or she could draw with Damian, is it really that hard?
She had a bit of a toxic relationship with Tim in the pre reboot of the new 52 but after that they had the best relationship and for some reason that was the moment DC decided they had to brake up. Tim broke with her without a reason, ghosted her, got in a new bisexual relationship and when he finally decided to be decent and talk things out with her he introduced her to his new boyfriend without warning her or asking her if she was ok and on top of that DC made her react like a wattpad 13 years old cringe boys love fangirl and say that "this is the best they ever" because a "nice to meet you" wasn't enough and be angry and sad like a normal human being after all Tim put her through was out of the question because that would be considered homophobic on her part.
Her whole teen pregnancy arc (which im extremely grateful is not cannon anymore) wasn't to give her depth or make the character more complex and interesting no, that arc had the only tacky and cheap wroten purpose of making Tim and Steph strengthen their relationship by making Tim having to take her to birth class and be there supporting her when she had to give up the baby for adoption... All this shit for nothing, because they later tried to kill her off permanently and even after she came back they never allowed them to be fine together. Like i said? Im so glad is not cannon anymore, Steph didn't deserve to go through that.
Her trauma about her "almost death" Unlike with Jason's death and Barbara getting disabled is absolutely never addressed, as if the way she was brutally sexually tortured for days after screwing up a plan she thought would get Batman to respect her instead provoked a gang war that made her feel unbearably guilty wasn't enough to have PTSD because the one who tortured her was Black Mask and not the Joker, looks like if you aren't a joker victim your trauma doesn't count. Every one mentions the wheelchair and the crowbar but nobody ever mentions the power drill.
If you know more Sad unfair facts, write on the comments or reblog please. Our girl deserves to be more acknowledged.

Should We Stay or Should We Go? || Prologue
-A ST Rewrite Feat. Steve Harrington x Henderson!OFC-
Tumblr media
Main Masterlist || Series Masterlist
🎲Summary: On the night of November 6th, 1983, Stephanie Henderson decided to walk her little brother’s friend, Will, back home. However… they never arrive. Now, Dustin, Mike and Lucas, and soon the exception of the girl’s ex-best friend, Steve, must band together to find out what happened. Meanwhile, Steph and Will must fight for their survival in this nightmarish version of Hawkins, Indiana.
🎲Chapter Summary: When they interlocked their pinkies none of them ever expected the weirdness that follows the years after. None of them ever expected to start growing apart. None of them ever expected the red string to stay attached. And none of them ever expected that they would be out saving the world with a baseball bat and wings. Yeah... you can’t make this stuff up.
🎲Pairings: Will x Platonic!OFC; Dustin x Sister!OC; Slow burn! Steve x Henderson!OFC (Ex-bestfriends to Lovers); Slow burn! Byler
🎲Rating: Teen-Mature
🎲Word Count: 921 (Small Introduction)
🎲Date: 3/6/24
🎲Warnings: Angst; Swearing; Implied Broken Friendship
🎲A/N: Extremely small chapter, hence why it's just the prologue. I just wanted to show my readers what the big picture is of this story, which is the Steve x OC relationship. However, just like above, this will contained the loving sibling relationship of Dustin, and even Will, between OC. This story also contains Jopper (a personal fav), Jancy, Mileven and the slow burn of Byler (I got to give this boy some love and if you think Will has been a background character for the last few seasons like I have then don't you worry! I'm giving Will a time for him to shine throughout this fic). Anyway, don't want this paragraph to be longer than the actual chapter. Lol. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
Pinky Promise.
It’s a bond between two people, a vow that’s taken so it shall not be broken. Childish, you know, but to a small kid it means everything. When they locked their pinkies together, muttering their promises to one another, they both had barely turned five, barely ready to take on the world head first.
But a promise was a promise— Yet a pinky promise was so much more. It holds so much more weight than crossing your heart or giving a handshake.
At least it was to these two very best friends…
.
.
.
“Wow.” The blue eyed girl said, genuinely surprised (She can’t even believe their conversation is so calming in a situation like this). “That explains so much. And… you never mentioned that to me before?”
“Well, can you blame me?” He asked, with a small smile and laugh. “I think it kinda does. I think, like, right out of the gate, like, I’m super confident. But I’m also, like, an idiot. Which is just…” He shrugs. “I mean, it’s a brutal combination. But, I mean, the good news is, I get a big enough thump on my head, I can change, you know? I can learn. I can crawl forward.”
She noticed his pace was slowing, and his brown eyes of his were becoming distant. “Steve?”
“Listen–” He stops them both, face looking like a lost puppy now. “I guess what I’m trying to say in a really stupid, roundabout way is, um… is thank you.”
She tilts her head, confused. “Thank you?” She watches him nod, adding fuel to her emotion. “For...?”
His face softens. “For giving my head the biggest thump of its life two years ago.” He chuckles. “Nancy, you know, she gave me the push, but you, Stephanie, gave me the thump I needed. It’s changed my life. And now I’m crawling forward in a way I never thought I could achieve. Slowly.”
And now he’s frowning, looking down at himself, engulfing himself in the glum. “I just wonder sometimes... you know, if... if I had just opened my eyes before I met Nancy, would things have been different? Like… part of me thinks we would’ve made it without our relationship falling apart.”
“Steve–” She croaks, teary eyed and shocked.
“And… you know what the craziest… most messed up part of the story is?”
“What?”
His lips curled up just a bit. “Remember the dream I told you about? About the Winnebago? Seeing the country with my six lil’ nuggets? It’s all true. Every last word. But… the mess up part?” He swallows, also getting emotional. “The mess up part is when I first thought of that dream… is that… you’re there. You’ve always been there.”
“Steve–”
“And that…” He smiles. “That’s my pinky promise to you, Miss Stephanie Henderson.”
.
.
.
The creature shrieked above, its claws waving around frantically –trying to get a nick out of him– as he held it back with some piping. He watched the pupils go all ‘cat-like’, fangs coming out that he swears were growing with each scream.
He was struggling, he knows this, and he knows he has to buy the kid some time to get a radio signal out to his girlfriend, but he was slipping, fuck it. However, he knows deep in his heart he can’t back down from this.
His jaw clenched and his eyes flash with determination. “I don’t care what you’ve become! I ain’t leaving you, Henderson!” He shouted, hoping his words would get through to her. “That’s a pinky promise.”
.
.
.
“I’m helping you and Dustin out.” He insisted, knowing damn well that she didn’t even want him near her brother, let alone near herself.
She sends him a look, skeptical, on edge. “Why?”
“Look, I know you don’t want to talk–”
“Damn, right.”
“Steph.” He says, stepping in front of her way to get her attention. “We’ll just put this on the backburner. Right now, and I mean it, I just want to help you and Dustin, keep you guys safe. Pinky Promise.”
.
.
.
“Steve–”
“I’m not going anywhere.” He says, while playing with his hands, nervously, worriedly. “Not until I know you’re okay.”
She frowns apologetically. “You know that might be a while.”
“I know.”
“I have Dustin and my mom, you don’t have to stay here.”
“I know.” He breaks eye contact. “But what if I want to?”
That made her chuckle. “Well… if you want to.” She says, making them both smile. “Fine sleeping in a chair?”
He nods. “If that’s what I’ll have to do.” He replies, making her hum.
She raises an eyebrow. “Is that a pinky promise?”
“Yeah.” His expression grows. “Pinky promise.”
.
.
.
But what if you break it? The promise? What if you don’t follow through? That is the unfortunate part of this story. The promise was to stay together forever, to make their friendship last a lifetime. For them, they were two peas in a pod, polar opposites that still attached themselves to one another… until they couldn’t.
When the boy decided to become a King, the girl became a peasant. The boy was showered with love and affection, and the girl was on a quest of loneliness that became bitter.
This was a story about Steve Harrington and Stephanie Henderson.
A story, where no matter what happens, the red string still stays attached to their pinkies despite their attempts to take it off.
This was story where the two of them decided to save the world–
Their families–
Their friends–
.
.
.
And their friendship.
(TBC)
Tumblr media
A/N: I was so surprised when everyone was asking to be added in just a few short days. Makes me really happy :D

Note
Now I'm curious, how would you rank the batfam based on how you'd get along irl??
In a scenario where I know their secret identities, and there’s a professional, almost co-workers-like dynamic, I think it'd varie greatly from one wherein which vigilante roles are completely absent. Among those I'd resonate with most (in the event I was born in their world) are Stephanie Brown, Duke Thomas, and Jason Todd. It's mainly due to shared backgrounds and similar upbringings, I think. Conversely, interactions with Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, and Damian Wayne might be more difficult for me. Strained, even, due to differences in ethical frameworks, perspectives, class understanding and overall core values. So there's two ratings; one where I'm in their AU and one where they're in mine.
Alfred Pennyworth: 4/10 - He might perceive some of my approaches as unorthodox, but I believe he would grasp the reasoning behind them. Our interactions would be limited primarily to joint missions. We wouldn't be close. | 6/10 In my world about 60% of elderly people seem drawn to recounting their youth to me, perhaps due to my perceived trustworthiness, and I like to think he'd be part of that demographic.
Bruce Wayne: 2/10 - Disagreements on methodology would likely hinder rapport, especially given my skepticism toward billionaires, which might result in minimal interactions outside of vigilante duties. | 1/10. I'd see him as a man-whore.
Dick Grayson: 3/10 - Our interactions would likely be brief and casual, without the potential for friendship. His typical millennial demeanor might clash with my sense of humor. But he reminds me of my older sister, so I can't rate him lower than a 2. The age gap might lead him to treat me like a younger sibling, which I'd find condescending. Certainly not someone I would befriend. | 2/10 My personal envy would breed hostility, resulting in a reciprocal cycle of unkindness between us.
Jason Todd: 8/10 - Especially in a context where we were familiar with each other before his whole "being-adopted-by-Batman" thing. He'd likely resonate with my approach to tasks and comprehend the motivations driving my actions. We're not THAT far apart in age so he'd get my humor, I think. | 4/10 In my world however, because I'd be nervous and there would be a lack of common ground between us without vigilantism.
Cassandra Cain: 2/10 - It would unsettle me to realize she can discern my emotions merely by observing me. While I'm generally transparent, this level of insight would make me uneasy, prompting me to steer clear of her. | 7/10 She shares some personality traits of one of my closest friends. Given my penchant for chatter and her inclination to listen, we'd likely complement each other well and have a harmonious friendship.
Tim Drake: 1/10- He wouldn't understand why I dislike him. And I wouldn't have an explanation. | 0/10. Earth isn't big enough for the both of us (completely one sided beef).
Stephanie Brown: 6/10 - She'd get how I roll, but Tim might have complained to her about me not being nice, so she'd be protective of him. | 10/10 We'd be the kind of girls who were super close in middle school, maybe even a bit too much. We'd drift apart in high school or college but still think about each other now and then, though not enough to reach out and become friends again.
Damian Wayne: 1/10 - Likely would perceive me negatively, interactions would be minimal. | 0/10 I just don't see us getting along.
Duke Thomas: 9/10 - He'd totally get my approach and might even be up for joining in (Bruce would see me as a bad influence). We'd both be game for pursuing each other's not-so-great ideas. Would have tons of fun but also engage in meaningful discussions about race, religion, politics, economics, society, art and allat. | 7/10 I can’t see myself being 100% comfortable around a man despite that, so that's how far it'll get, sue me !
Barbara Gordon: 4/10 - Like Dick, she'd likely see me as a kid, which would irk me because I'd want to be seen as an equal. However, since she's a woman, it'd feels a tad less patronizing and more maternal, so she gets one extra point in my book. | 6/10 She's that nice employee at the bookstore who takes my search for a specific book I don’t remember the name of super seriously. But we would not be friends.
To @voiddaisy who asked me a similar question, this is for you too ! Thanks for the ask !

Dick Grayson and Stephanie Brown's Relationship
Bat Family relations are always wild. In short, to me, Steph kinda sees Dick as her "big sister"'s tight-arse ex-boyfriend whom she's surprisingly happy is still in the picture and Dick kinda sees Steph as his little brother's loose-canon ex-girlfriend whom he's surprisingly happy is still in the picture. But it's a bit more complicated than that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bruce likens Dick and Steph to each other because of how strikingly chatty, agile and determined they both are. Still, these two got off to a rough start. Dick initially mistrusted (and worried about) Steph because of her unconventional methods and leap-before-you-look attitude, and Steph found Dick to be yet another self-righteous authority figure in her way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, Dick and Steph quickly grew to become sort of siblings-but-not-really to each other. They squabble on the job, each with quips in hand. They're concerned about each other but it manifests as annoyance or anger. They're both grieving a sort of father-ish figure in Bruce, which impacts their relationship with each other. They're also both semi-raising Damian as their kid-brother but in different ways; Dick tends to parent him more and keep him in line while Steph tends to bring herself to his level and reaches out as a peer or friend. Dick, Steph and Damian have an odd familial, pseudo-sibling dynamic, which even the art leans into.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That first panel above is adorable but get a look at the second panel, pulled from Batman: The Return. Our three children-who-grew-up-too-fast stand together, a good distance behind their father-figure, who they each gaze towards. Notice how Tim and Barbara are actually no where near these three. Dick, the oldest child with the world on his shoulders, towers over the other two from behind. His arms are crossed and his expression half-obscured by his cowl; he is disconcerted but will keep his worries to himself for he must remain strong for his "siblings". Steph, the rebellious middle child who takes no crap, stands tall in an open stance. She is positioned lower than Dick and closest to Bruce; she wears her concern more openly and will leave nothing unsaid because someone has to say something. Damian, the wet-behind-the-ears youngest child, is perched higher than Steph but he sits, curled up; he feels confused and lost which is terrifying so he retreats into a space between his "siblings" and into himself.
Side note: while Dick is sort of like a big brother to Steph, he's also a sort of a big brother to her bestie, Kara, and literally the big brother of her other bestie, Cass.
Tumblr media
These two have a cute, complicatedly almost-sibling relationship. They're similar in the eyes of others, but to them they couldn't be more different. They're over their former reservations for each other and have become family, in part through both of them looking out for Damian.

Some Stephanie Brown & Jason Todd fics that got me back into DC and batman.
Just Another Kid by shobogan
Stephanie is Jason's best friend. She's about to discover that she's Robin's, too.
‘Too Young To Be Taken Seriously, Too Old To Believe All This Hypocrisy’ by Hinn_Raven
When Crystal Brown goes into rehab, leaving Stephanie in the sole custody of her father, Steph decides to run away from home, and meets Jason Todd, who decides that she is the best little sister ever.
or: "the dark knight is beaten up by children on the anniversary of his parents death... tragic"
know your enemy by Valkirin
Jason Todd thought he was ready for anything when he headed to Titans Tower to have a talk with Robin. He was not ready for Stephanie Brown.
Ghostgirl and Zomboy by shauds
Ghostgirl and Zomboy"Stephanie I swear to god." Jason growled deep in his throat, his hands tightening on his sniper rifle, his useless sniper rifle. Because he couldn't see the target he'd been preparing all well to send to hell. 'Again.'
"You don't make demands of the ghost, asshole, the ghost makes demands of you." He should have known better than to make his big comeback in October
Third Robin Tales Series by weekend_conspiracy_theorist
Currently a series of semi-connected scenes within a world where Bruce encountered Stephanie as Spoiler before Tim decided that if no one else was going to be Robin, then he had to. Tim and Steph found each other anyway.
Bruce didn't find out that his Robin was running rooftops with a random civilian until six years later, when the Red Hood and Oracle started poking around at Gotham's newest Private Investigator...
No Jason here but adding these anyway for the incredible writing.
New Wave by yellow_caballero
Some lunatic in a bat costume is running around Gotham clowning on fools, but local delinquent Stephanie Brown has way bigger problems. When her father and friends start joining mob wars Steph knows she has to do something about it before Gotham collapses. If that means joining up with rich dudes playing dress up, pasty nerds with hacking and photography habits, and throwing on a costume herself, then that’s just what she’ll have to do. Even if Batman works alone. She’s convincing.
In which Stephanie Brown rocks the radical nineties and becomes the first Robin, ruining Batman’s life and giving Tim Drake a hobby.
Never Get You Right by audreycritter
When Stephanie Brown was little, she would sit on her roof and watch the sky and wish that Batman would come save her. Then one day, he did.

Tim gets hit by a huGE dose of cuddle pollen Ivy made, but she modified it to make the victim more...loopy, or lower their inhibitions. It basically makes them not give a shit and do what they ACTUALLY want, but the fluff version.
So since Tim deep, deep, deeeeeep down is a huge fuckin sap. (You can never, ever take away this headcanon from me.)
He pounces on someone (read: Duke) the second he wakes up in the medbay. And since the batfam doesn't know that Tim isn't a corny ass sap, they think it's the pollen doing it, but nope, Timmy is just very touch-starved and wants to share his affection.
THE CASE OF DUKE THOMAS:
Duke gets pounced on first (he's Tim's favorite) and gets a clingy leech whose arms and legs are wrapped around his body very tightly and is also nuzzling the crook of his neck.
He's also trying very hard to control the blush on his face when Tim praises him, whether it be from training, school, or his personal achievements. Even if Tim constantly praises him when he wasn't dosed, he still couldn't get used to the sheer support.
The boy just huffs and carries Tim like a teddy bear, and the others are just watching silently at the display. (Dick seething in the bg but lets ignore that–)
THE CASE OF CASSANDRA CAIN:
Cass is the second, she doesn't dodge as Tim pounces on her back, his arms tucked around her head and legs wrapped around her neck.
Tim tells her how he's so glad that he's her sister and how he loves her very much, and would actually commit genocide for her—
And Cass just smiles cutely and pats him on the thigh, and continues to walk to the library, with Tim still on her shoulders, who is still complimenting and praising Cass, and also still wanting to commit war crimes for her.
THE CASE OF JASON TODD:
The third one is Jason, it's a slow night, nothing's really happening, just some regular drug busts, gang fights, and burglars, but other than that, everything's just very relaxed. Well, as relaxed as Gotham can get.
It's during this patrol when Tim slowly comes up beside him and intertwines their hands together, careful and gentle, because he knows Jason is still kind of uncomfortable to touch, not so much now, but it's still there, but he's working on it bit by bit.
Of course, Jason knows Tim knows about his fear of touch, I mean he'd be pretty surprised if he didn't, but he doesn't mind that Tim doesn't force Jason to hug or cuddle him vigorously, but does it in a subtler, gentle way.
Jason huffs and squeezes Tim's hand as thanks. Tim grins and squeezes back. They share a comfortable silence as they walk to a nearby cafe.
THE CASE OF STEPHANIE BROWN:
The fourth is Stephanie, and since they're exes-turned-to-best friends, and very cuddly, she wasn't that surprised but was more excited that this Tim doesn't hold back on the mushiness of it all.
They have a competition to see who can call the other the most cringiest, corny names that they can think of.
(Spoiler: (haha spoiler) Steph's in the lead)
The fact that Tim was hit by the pollen didn't change anything drastic to their dynamic, it sort of just, well, evolved it, they're still the cuddliest of buddies. And if they get more cringier and exhausting to the rest of the batfam? Well, it's their problem now.
THE CASE OF DICK GRAYSON:
The fifth is Dick, who is still very bitter that Tim didn't hug him first-
("But...bUT I WAS HIS BIG BROTHER FIRST– WHAT DO YOU HAVE THAT I DON'T?!–"
"Uhhh...respecting his boundaries? being normal and not overbearing or being allergic to emotions? just being a friend to him in general to be honest-"
"..." )
And was also very relieved that he wasn't seriously hurt.
He's at the living room watching some random Rom-Com when Tim appears and stands closely to the couch Dick was on, curious about the movie as well.
Dick doesn't get a chance to say anything until something hits his chest. And when he looked down to see what it was, he almost cried from joy.
Tim was hugging him!! He was hugging him!! HA TAKE THAT DUKE–
Dick adjusted their position so that they're more comfortable, Tim's legs were on his thighs and his head was leaning on his shoulder.
Tim didn't really seem to mind as he was manhandled, but squirmed a little bit when Dick hugged him too hard.
Dick's just happy to see his little brother showing affection first!! He's come a long way. He says dramatically as he wipes a fake tear out of his eye.
THE CASE OF DAMIAN WAYNE:
The Sixth one is Damian, he was unnerved to see Tim being openly affectionate to the family, as he was used to seeing him being sarcastic and reserved, but not this... Grayson 2.0 clone.
(and also because he's a little, a tiny, bit offended that he wasn't the one who he hugged and looked for first. I mean, hello, Timothy? I am the youngest?? We trauma bonded?? I cradled you in my arms?? I'm Robin???)
But he was forced to accept this new Timothy. This new Timothy who gave him head pats for a good job, who scooped him in his arms in the morning when he's too tired to notice everything, who sets him on his lap and watches Animal Documentaries when he feels like Damian is too angry or is having a tantrum.
This new Timothy treated him like how he would treat his own little brother. He doesn't force him to do something he doesn't want unless it's absolutely needed. Respects his personal space when Damian was not in the mood but shows how he cares about him in other ways.
And, and. . . .this Tim was just affected by the pollen. It was not real, he was just forced to do this because of some stupid, meaningless, pollen. He doesn't really love Damian, he's just hallucinating.
But Damian doesn't push Tim off of him when he carries him up the stairs like a toddler.
Or when he praises him on how much he grew as a person, how much he learned, how he's so glad that he's with them now and comfortable in his own home, how kind he is to animals, or when he softly leans down and kisses his forehead good night.
Maybe tomorrow. Damian thinks, as Tims soft voice sends him to sleep.
THE CASE OF BRUCE WAYNE:
The seventh, is obviously, Bruce.
He wasn't a perfect parent, that much he can say at least. He was a broken man, who couldn't deal with his emotions properly.
It's getting better now though, as he's been seeing Dinah Lance twice a month. It's not going to be easy to change things that have been engraved in his heart for a long time.
But if it's for his kids? Bruce would do it in a heartbeat.
Tim walks over to where Bruce is, perched over the Bat Computer, looking at evidence of another human trafficking ring that had yet to be found.
He can see Bruce's shoulders stiffen, his expression carefully blank, but his hands were gripping the console too hard.
Bruce hears Tim approaching him from behind. His brilliant, intelligent, and lovable Tim. He doesn't deserve him, hell, he doesn't deserve any of his children
He feels like he failed them, and he had yet to apologize to all of them, some more than others, but he's working on it together with Dinah.
He's shocked when he feels Tim hug him from behind, nuzzling his head into his back. Bruce, still unmoving decided to turn his head to look at Tim, who was drowsy as he just woke up from a nap and wanted to find Bruce. (His son, his beautiful, capable, strong son.)
"Tim? You should go to your room if you're still tired—"
"You'reee. . . doing your besttttt, Bruceee...I'm proud of youuu...!"
Tim keeps on complimenting him, and god does the guilt fucking eat him alive
Bruce is shaking, Tim can feel it, but he was so sleepy, so he has to say this before he has to go upstairs to his room and fall asleep.
"I love you."
And Tim passes out, his hands loosely falling from Bruce's waist, but he catches him just in time before he hits the floor.
Bruce picks him up in a bridal carry and leaves the Bat Cave. He stays silent for most of the trip until he arrives at Tim's room and tucks him into bed.
A lone tear slid down his face as he cupped Tim's cheek into his much, much bigger hands. Looking at his son with pure adoration.
"I love you too."
He kisses his forehead before he leaves the room and turns off the light. Wondering why his throat feels likes there's a lump inside of it all of a sudden.
----
THE CASE OF THE SIRENS:
When they finally get to Ivy, she just laughs at them, cackling even.
"You idiots! That pollen was to just make someone show how they really feel, the nicer kind, I mean."
She rests her chin on top of her hand.
"It was supposed to be a prototype but hey, at least we know it works now."
Ivy looks at them and their glares bore holes into her skull, too bad she doesn't care.
"It takes their nicest qualities and times them to a ten. So Tim?"
She points at Red Robin who's busy hugging Harvey and is being cooed at by Catwoman.
"Is just a soft guy at heart, it wasn't forced or something, the pollen just helped him amp up his confidence and makes him do what he always, truly, wanted."
Ivy turns her back on them and goes over to Harley and Catwoman, and Tim beams at her, Ivy gives a soft smile and pats his head.
THE CASE OF THE BATFAM:
Meanwhile...
"WHAT?!–"
"Oh, so you guys didn't know Tim was a huge sap?"
"NO??? HOW WERE WE SUPPOSED TO KNOW!!???"
"Being a normal person man, it gets you anywhere."
"Babybird's soft as fuck, and also very cuddly, you guys just don't have the privilege to hear or see it like normal lol."
"Todd, you have five seconds until I dismember you–"
"Oh please Dami, you're just embarrassed!"
"Very true. His ears are turning very red."
"I AM NOT BLUSHING! SHUT UP!"
Bruce is just there in the middle, staring out at nothing, the only thing on his mind is just Tim saying I love you to him, echoing every 5 seconds.
Tim is just on cloud nine, happy.
Loopy, but still very happy.

Controversial DC take but......Stephanie would never dye her hair blonde, especially if she was black or some other kind of woc.She got her hair color from Arthur so i sincerely doubt she'd try to actively look like her abusive dad who's gone as far as trying to kill her and that she canonically hates.I get that you guys are trying to make her recognizable but you don't need to keep her blonde to do that, she has distinctive traits other than that and i'll admit i find it odd that only her 'golden locks' are focused on.Let 2024 be the year of black haired blasian Stephanie Brown who knows she looks like a perfect babe as she is

Still with the Reverse!Robins
…Eddie never forgives Steph for the fight at the Tower.
(CW: Yeah, this one gets borderline graphic with Jason’s injuries after the Tower fight, and especially Eddie needing to cauterize one of them.)
Jason & Steph work through their lingering issues after she saves Jason from the Joker (neither of them puts the word ‘forgiveness’ to it, but they come to an understanding, recognize how things got to that point, how they got to from there to where they are now, and figure out how to move forwards. This is seriously the most emotionally fraught & complicated purely interpersonal conflict in the story, and there’s no way to summarize or breeze past it without sounding pithy, so we’re just going to acknowledge that and move on, okay?) The rest of the family, they only saw the aftermath once Eddie was done patching Jason up and could call for help, and to a certain degree that is overridden by the image of Steph carrying Jason’s broken-but-still-breathing body back to them so careful & gentle, and of Steph hovering around Jason for weeks as he worked through his recovery, always there the second he needed her but always careful of his space. The other Titans, they were off on other missions (or possibly cursed to sleep for a couple days,) and didn’t even get to see Jason until well into his recovery, and so only know how bad it got by hearsay—when Jason says it’s cool and Steph’s his sister now, it’s weird & disconcerting, but they can come to terms with it.
But Eddie. Eddie watched her stab Jason, saw the blood spray out of a major artery. Eddie had to burn his best friend with his own hands, just to make sure Jason lived long enough to make it to medical. Eddie had to listen to Jason bite back screams, while the person who hurt Jason walked out of the Tower like it was nothing. Eddie will forever be haunted by the feeling of Jason’s leg trying to jerk away from his touch, of pinning it down while the flesh sizzled, of the smell. Eddie patched Jason up while Jason cried himself out over his childhood hero hating him. Eddie held Jason while Jason got it “all out of his system” before he had to explain things to the rest of the family. Eddie washed the vomit off Jason’s face & suit. Eddie sat there, alone, after Jason finally passed out, waiting for someone (anyone) to come help them.
No. No, Eddie will never forgive Steph for what she’s done. Eddie will never trust Steph, no matter what. Maybe once in a while on a joint mission, he can “trust” her to get the job done, but beyond that? Were it not for the whole Batfamily standing between them, that boy would’ve smote her on sight.
(After Steph helps save Eddie from Hell, Jason thinks the two have made their peace. In a way, Jason’s right. What happened was: Eddie found Steph alone sometime in the next day or so, thanked her for her help, but also told her, “Don’t think this changes anything.” That all the help in the world can never make up for what she did, that Jay’s too big-hearted for his own good, that Eddie knows what it’s like when your personal hero rips your heart out and leaves you for dead, and it’s not something you get over. That no matter what happens, no matter how ‘good’ the relationship gets, Jason’s going to have to carry that hurt for the rest of his life, and there’s nothing she can do to change that. Eddie tells Steph he won’t move against her because Jason wouldn’t want him to, but that Eddie will never forgive her. And if she ever hurts Jay again, there isn’t a force in the multiverse that will stop Eddie from hunting her down—not Red Devil, not Kid Devil, not any other identity he might take on, Edward Bloomberg will hunt Stephanie Brown down—and dragging her back to Hell.
Eddie stands there, trembling, fists clenched, smoke curling off his skin, glaring Steph down as she stops sharpening her swords and stares cooly back at him. “Thank god,” Steph says, “someone in this community still has common sense! I thought everyone had lost their minds while I was dead.” Eddie stares in shock. Steph shakes her head. “Red, I have done more fucked up shit than you will ever know about. And I’m going to keep doing fucked up shit, because honestly? I don’t regret most of it. I still think it was the right thing to do.” She looks down at her reflection in her sword and frowns. “Hurting Jay is not one of those things. It was wrong. I can’t take it back, but I—no. No, no ‘but’s. No justifications, no excuses.” Steph looks up, meeting Eddie’s eyes. “You want to hold me to account? Good. I’ll hold you to that.”
She spits in her hand and holds it out to shake. Eddie does the same, smirking a little when Steph winces at the near-scorching heat of his skin. “I’m glad Jay’s got someone like you looking out for him,” Steph says. “When he lets me,” Eddie grumbles, unable to keep the fond exasperation out of his voice. Steph snorts. “Tell me about it! Fucking brat just can’t stay out of trouble, can he?”
The single, slightly-trippy moment of 3am conciliation is interrupted by Jason shuffling into the room with a yawn and a muttered, “You better not be talking ‘bout me.” “Of course we were,” Steph says before Eddie can even open his mouth. “I was just about to show him your baby pictures, actually. Do you want to join us, mini-me?”
Jason mutters something about fuckin’ traitors and gets a snack from the fridge, then grabs Eddie by the arm on his way back out. Eddie gives Steph a shrug. “I’ve been summoned. Goodnight or something, I guess.” “You kids be safe!” she calls after them. Jason doesn’t even look back, just flips her off over his shoulder. Steph laughs.)
.
(Eddie soon finds himself laying down with Jason protectively curled around him, softly snoring into Eddie’s shoulder. And Eddie realizes that, for the first time in years, he has his whole future ahead of him—no time limit, no conditions—and feels a little dizzy with it. He wonders how he got so lucky, just to have Jason in his life at all.)

strategy sets the scene for this tale (Tim Drake x OC)
by lazydaisyyy Ruhi Kaur is harbouring a secret, but it isn’t her own. Her sister, Khushi, is the superhero Starling. Khushi tells her everything. Everything but the identities of Starling’s colleagues, which quickly become an obsession. Eventually, her search for the man behind the cowl leads her to meet Timothy Drake. Their friendship (maybe more?) leads them to discover the identity of the Big bat himself, as well as Batgirl, Nightwing, and both the Robins. 🧇Stephanie Brown Headcanons (high school AU)
💜 Stephanie never truly goes by her full name, in her file she has it as Steph Brown, never Stephanie since she thinks of it as a negative than something positive.
🧇 She loves art, music and sometimes she finds music to have a big hand in some of her art pieces.
💜 She didn't fit in with school, with the way she dressed and to her friend group.
🧇 Her sister, Cass Caine is her best friend and even if she is her half sister she never looked at her a different way.
💜 She has been in the schools art exabit for 2 years, and has even had someone buy one of her pieces before for 75 dollars.
🧇 Her parents aren't together, mostly living with her mother as her father stepped out. She gets phone calls here and there, but she doesn't have much of a relationship with him.
💜 On the topic of her father, he is the main reason she hates her full name. Only calling her Stephanie when he was mad or upset with her.
🧇 She has never had a boyfriend, crushes yes but never anything farther than that.
💜 Steph has known Jason for most of her school life and had once made a small portrait of him for a project.
🧇 She has made letters for those she had a crush on. Those being Jason Todd, Tim Drake, and Dick Grayson.
💜 You can normally find Steph in the art room or even in the history room. She normally ate lunch there.
🧇 Can not drive to save her life at the moment, newly getting her license but still learning.
💜 Loves to read, finds herself reading mostly when she is home or even daydreaming that she was the main lead in the book. The one who always gets the boy.
🧇 On top of waffles being her favorite, she has always loved milkshakes. Loved going after school to get one after a long day at school or even a rough on on her mentally.
💜 Stephanie finds herself falling in love with guys or girls in the books, only because her own love life sucks so - might as well fantasize about those who don’t exist.

What are YOUR friends like? I’m dying to know!!! Not really dying of course I can wait until you meet them if you haven’t yet although technically you have and just can’t remember or haven’t experienced yet-Very tangled thing that is isn’t it? 🤭 If you haven’t which ones are you meeting? If you want we can even trade!!! I’ll tell you about mine too!!! I think you know them at least a teeny tiny bit already but it could be fun! ❤️⚡️
I don’t really… have many friends in my Bat DR hahah but I WILL talk about the fam
Also please share yours I’d love to hear it!!
Cassandra Cain
I love her SO much. Sweetest girl. Baddest of bitches. WILL kick your ass.
We do ballet together, and we patrol together :)
Stephanie Brown
STEPH!!!! She’s great. Not enough words. Amazing, showstopping, incredible.
We have a particularly close bond because I trained her to be a vigilante!
Barbara Gordon
Honorary big sister. Babs is everything I wish I could be. The OG. The COOLEST person ever.
She’s the one I go to about everything, the one I seek out if I need to vent, chat, laugh, cry, or just sit there in silence.
Jason Todd
We are attached at the mfin HIP. Trauma-bond and all that. He didn’t die so he’s not as angsty but wow can he still be insufferable (lovingly)
We were the only two kids in the family for a while (besides Damian but he was much younger) and we were both Robins so, obviously we became besties. My ride or die. We DO have a book club.
Dick Grayson
BEST brother someone could ask for.
Funny. Kind. Annoying in the best ways.
He saved me as a kid, so honestly? Can do no wrong in my eyes (/j). When I was younger he’d always take me to see the teen titans, and he teach me circus tricks.
Honestly just the coolest guy.
Tim Drake
Funny asf in that dry sorta way. Smart. PETTY AS SHIT, DONT LET ANYONE TELL YOU OTHERWISE. Also someone please get that damn zesti cola away from him.
Did i know he used to follow us on patrol? Yes. Did HE know that I knew? No. I talked to him once but let him think he’d gotten away with his dumbass disguise. I’d kinda watch out and make sure he didn’t get too close to danger, but I thought it was kinda funny so I didn’t snitch to batman.
Duke Thomas
Do not let anyone make you think he’s the normal one he’s just as weird as the rest of us. He’s just better at hiding it lmao.
LOVE this kid! He’s the greatest. Sometimes I’ll join him on a daytime patrol if the previous nights patrol hadn’t been too rough.
Damian Wayne
Babey. Talia took him from the league wayyy earlier so he’s not as much of a little gremlin but he has his moments.
I ADORE this kid. He isn’t Robin right now, but wow it’s impossible to get him out of the cave so he’s an honorary team member atm.
I don’t really have any friends outside the family atm, I’m just gonna let it play out once I get there yk?
(Also I am aware there are more members of the Batfam…. So many… I will get to them okay these are just the ones I’ve got scripted for now lol)

Comics Review: ‘Batgirls’ #1
Tumblr media
Batgirls Vol. 1 by Becky Cloonan My rating: 3 of 5 stars Gotham is on fire. Again. (Still?) And fortunately or unfortunately, by this juncture, fewer and fewer people truly care whether anyone is around to douse the flames. Which could be a good thing for Team Batgirl, whose combined ranks of Gordon, Cain, and Brown might slip among the shadows a little bit easier. But nothing really goes as one hopes when crimefighting in a city on fire. In BATGIRLS v1, readers breeze into the chaos midstream: Team Batgirl fights off a street artist with a knack for mind control, encounters a trio of well-equipped militant extremists, defends against a prodigy hacker, and as often happens when dealing with teenage superheroes, the team, from time to time, must also combat its own stupidity. BATGIRLS v1 successfully executes what many recent iterations of Batgirl have done: blend new stories of familiar heroics for new readers. Barbara Gordon is the big sister with a mind for strategy and gadgetry. Cassandra Cain is a strong, silent, and efficient partner looking for comfort among close friends. And Stephanie Brown, who is especially chatty, hates villainy with a casual efficiency that would be terrifying if she weren't so exceedingly upbeat. Few comics fans who thrive on more parochial ("classic") narrative tales of any of these characters will fall in love with this new comic. But that's okay. For what BATGIRLS v1 hopes to achieve, the character relationships and plotting mostly hit the target. The book struggles to balance its quest to entertain as well as the necessity of narrative focus. Does the team settle on relocating its hideout after a bomb threat, does it pound the pavement in search of an upstart mind-control freak, does it crack down on a hyped-up group of well-armed militants, or does it track down a hacker who has infiltrated Oracle's network? Lots of entertaining stuff. But ultimately very poor focus. Some of these stories are relegated to C-level priority, despite being introduced as a big deal. For others, the reverse feels truer than not. For example, The Saints, sharp assassins bearing some sweet gear, enter the story early only to falter and feather into the background. Team Batgirl gets its butt kicked the first time around, but in the end, the headhunters are a piece of cake. Is this another casualty of Big Two comics promising more than it can deliver? Regardless, it's kind of a letdown. BATGIRLS v1 leans heavily on the antics and dynamics of its co-protagonists. Cass is generally mum, but she doesn't hesitate to voice her opinion when her emotions rise to the fore. Steph is written precisely like a modern teenager, which is to say, she somehow balances being incredibly productive while also being dreadfully annoying. The two girls would make for the center-point of a killer series, when they're older, about Batgirl Roommates. But for now, side stories and commentary involving oddball pajamas, burned pancakes, and pierced ears will have to do. Visually, the comic employs an effective art style that works well with these iterations of Cain and Gordon but doesn't always mesh with Brown's ebullience. The book's sharp, angular, fed-from-the-shadows visual design is inherently cryptic, and more than suitable to the storytelling atmospherics of a city lulled to sleep while still on fire. The art in this book really stands out, from the geometric silhouette of Cain's cape to the incredible color-mix of psychosis and psychedelia readers engage, once fear gas is introduced into the story. Perhaps if the book reduced its villain count and narrowed its narrative trajectory, then the art team's work would've been even more effective. BATGIRLS v1 thrives, but ebbs and flows considerably in the process. The character voices are distinct and the art delivers on all accounts. But the story problematically overloads when it should instead pick and choose its challenges.
